Orthodontic and periodontic interaction in growing and adult patients

In the orthodontic treatment of growing and adult patients we often encounter periodontal problems that must be considered and addressed. The main purpose of this course is to suggest an interdisciplinary approach for patients in need for orthodontic treatment and affected by periodontal problems, where the synergy between the orthodontist and the periodontist is of utmost importance. The focus will be on the basis of ortho-perio treatment, in particular the conditions needed to start orthodontic treatment, and the timing in relation to the type of periodontal treatment. The latter is subjected to variations according to the healing time, being different according to presence or not of bone defects and to the type and amount of the defect. The combined clinical solutions to muco-gingival and bone problems with different approaches in growing and adult patients will be shown. Long term follow ups will also be presented, to focus on another pillar of our treatments, which is the maintenance of the results by our patients, without whose motivation success is not guaranteed.
